Scan a QR code
Use your camera or upload an image. Decoding happens on your device.
Ready to scan
Start your camera, or upload / paste an image with a QR code.
Scanning runs entirely in your browser. Images never leave your device.
Scanning QR codes in your browser
This scanner reads a QR code without installing an app and without sending anything to a server. The decoder is compiled to WebAssembly and runs on your device, so the camera feed and any image you upload stay in the browser tab.
How it works
- 1
Start the camera or pick an image
Press Start camera and allow access when the browser asks. If you already have a screenshot or a photo of a code, upload it instead, or paste it straight from the clipboard.
- 2
Hold the code inside the frame
Keep the whole code visible, including the quiet margin around it. Move closer until it fills about half of the view; tilting the phone slightly helps with glare on glossy paper and screens.
- 3
Check the result before you act on it
The decoded text is shown in full. Links, phone numbers, email addresses, SMS and map locations get a matching button, and everything else can be copied with one tap.
Questions about this tool
- Is it safe to open a link from a QR code?
- Read the address first. A code can point anywhere, and stickers placed over real codes are a known trick. The scanner never opens a link on its own: you see the full URL first and decide.
- Why does my code not scan?
- The usual causes are low contrast, a missing white border, a code printed too small for the distance, or a logo that covers too much of it. Inverted codes (light on dark) also confuse some readers.
- Do you store what I scan?
- No. There is no account and no upload. The image is processed in memory in your browser and is gone when you close the tab.
